Welcome to the Iron Mountain Depot

About us

In 1878 the Iron Mountain Railroad was built through the the town of Poplar Bluff and it has been a railroad town ever since. In 1910 the Iron Mountain Depot was built and it has functioned as a train depot to this very day. In 2003, Union Pacific turned over the historic depot to the newly formed Poplar Bluff Historic Depot Restoration Corporation (PBHDRC). The PBHDRC is an all-volunteer organization with the goal of restoring the Iron Mountain Depot to its former glory and ensuring its preservation for future generations to come.

Restoring Iron Mountain

The PBHDRC has worked tirelessly to help restore the Iron Mountain Depot. We have overseen the installation of a historically accurate simulated tile roof and the rebuilding of the historic staircase that once allowed passengers to access to the Main Street Hotel from the depot. The total cost of all of the improvements to the depot to date is over a million dollars, which was paid for by government grants as well as over a thousand generous individual donations. We eagerly look forward to our future projects and the day when the Iron Mountain Depot will be fully restored.
