Restoring the Depot

Projects in Progress

North End Renovation

We are in the middle of renovating the north end of the depot. This renovation will consist of installing new floor joists and steel beams for extra support, the installation of advantech decking, a new internal staircase, a spray foam ceiling, and new electrical panels.

Amtrak Waiting Room

We are currently working on moving the Amtrak waiting room to the north side of the building and opening up the large old waiting room as a community resource room, restoring the room to it’s original design.

This will involve installing a complete hvac system, as well as adding in new windows, new doors, and installing eight vintage ceiling fans with lights.

Our volunteers have been working for several months replacing the ceiling and repairing the plaster walls.

Past Projects

New Roof - 2010

We renovated the building with a historically accurate simulated tile roof.

In addition to this, a new fence and gutters were added as well.

This project cost a total of around $500,000 by the way of various Federal and State grants.

Rebuilt Grand Staircase - 2015

Sweeping up from the depot to cherry street is the Grand Staircase. This staircase led travelers into down town Poplar Bluff. This included hotels, restaurants and even the railroad YMCA.

Over the years this staircase began to deteriorate, so in 2013 our board began planning for the restoration of this Grand Staircase. And with the help of the Poplar Bluff Garden Club and a grant form the Missouri Department of Transportation we began the restoration of the the Grand Staircase and the near by hillside landscaping.

This project from the planning to execution took just over five and half years and cost a total of $500,000.

Now travelers and visitors alike can enjoy this historic downtown landmark.
